Expert services

Some expert services are available to support people with specific needs into training and employment. For example, extra help is available for people with disabilities, young people and people without permanent accommodation. The ‘expert services’ can often support individuals all the way from thinking about work, into getting and keeping a job.

The Children’s Information Service is part of Westminster City Council. The service provides free information and guidance to residents on childcare, early education and other children's services in the City of Westminster.

They can give general information on tax credits and also advertises job vacancies in local childcare settings and is the point of contact for people who want to start a career working with children.

The CIS telephone helpline is 020 7641 7929 and is staffed Monday – Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, with a voicemail at all other times. All requests for information are processed within 24 hours.

H.E.L.P. operates various outreach surgeries across Westminster, providing support, advice and guidance to people wishing to access employment and voluntary work or learning and training opportunities.
Those eligible for the project are people living in temporary accommodation provided by Westminster Housing Options Service (HOS), people newly approaching the HOS as homeless and people on the HOS Family Quota waiting list.

An Advisor works on a one-to-one basis to provide support with the following:

  • Job hunting/ research into the local labour market
  • Completing application forms and interview techniques
  • Assisting in searching for and applying to local education providers
  • Preparation of c.v.s
  • Looking for suitable volunteering opportunities

Migrants Resource Centre works with and for migrants and refugees. It provides: courses in English and computing; general advice with specialists working in immigration; opportunities for volunteering; creche provision for students and others on a drop-in basis and a voice for migrants and refugees in the wider community.

Sure Start delivers a comprehensive programme to improve the quality of life for children from birth to 5 years of age and their families within the Sure Start South Westminster catchment area. WES values all forms of employment, paid, voluntary, part-time and full-time, and supports people who choose to study at either college or university.
